Genre: Non-fiction, Humor, Graphic Novel
Publisher: Quirk Books
Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Fanfic, cosplay, cons, books, memes, podcasts, vlogs, OTPs and RPGs and MMOs and more—it’s never been a better time to be a girl geek. The Fangirl’s Guide to the Galaxy is the ultimate handbook for ladies living the nerdy life, a fun and feminist take on the often male-dominated world of geekdom. With delightful illustrations and an unabashed love for all the in(ternet)s and outs of geek culture, this book is packed with tips, playthroughs, and cheat codes for everything from starting an online fan community to planning a convention visit to supporting fellow female geeks in the wild.
My opinion on the book:
To be honest i was hoping for something totally different from the book, i was hoping for some humor about being a Fangirl… laughing about the crazy things we, the fangirls, may do because of a show we like and such..
Yes, there was a little humor at the beginning but as the book keeps going on it becomes more of a true guide for where and how find people like you, cons, being a female geek in a world of male geeks, how to make cosplay and what it means..and other topic like that.
In my honest opinion the book is too serious for what i was looking for. Yes, it is a great guide, but mostly just to American fangirls, since the lists of cons and places ro find other fangirls and such are in the US, so, most of the time i ended up reading through but not paying much attention., since it will never help me.
Still, the idea is pretty neat, it sure is a great guide for people only starting in the world of “geeks”, i think many people may enjoy it, even though it wasn’t for me. PRetty sure it’s for younger kids than myself, and for people wanting to interact in real life with people
(sorry i’m so asocial).
So, if you are looking for advice on how to enter the fangirling world, i recommend you to give this book a chance!
Have a great time!
‘Til Next Time 😉
