Opal (The Raven Cycle #4.5) by Maggie Stiefvater

Opal (The Raven Cycle #4.5)Opal (The Raven Cycle #4.5) by Maggie Stiefvater

Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy
Pages: 38
Publisher: Scholastic Inc.
Rating: 4 stars

Summary: An enchanting story from Maggie Stiefvater featuring Opal, Ronan, and Adam from her bestselling Raven Cycle, taking place after the events of The Raven King.

My opinion on the novella:

I’ve missed these books since the series ended back in 2016, but up until this moment, I didn’t realize how much.

The world Maggie created for these books it’s not only fantastic because of the magic in it but also because of the uniqueness and the amazing characters she gave life to.

This little story, from Opal’s pov, brought me so many feelings because even though she *spoiler alert* was created on a Ronan’s dream and brought to our world by him, I feel is a connection to what could come later in the Ronan’s trilogy Maggie commented about a while ago.

Yes, i’m pretty sure this isn’t wishful thinking but a bridge to the next trilogy in the Raven’s universe.

Opal’s pov is so different form the ones we got in the series, i enjoyed reading it so much.

Sure this is a short story, only a little taste to what’s coming next for our dreamer and his creations but like, it has me already dying to have those books in my hands.

Seriously, there’s wonder in the way the author created this world, i just can’t explain what it is.

Now back to the novella, i feel everyone who read the books would enjoy this little story, not only because we get to know more about Ronan, Opal, and Adam but because even though it’s such a short one it’s full of little details that just take you back to the story. It’s like all this time since the end of The Raven King hasn’t passed, it’s like you just finished reading it.

Actually, now that i read the novella i have the immense urge to reread the books (and in fact, I already started rereading The Raven Boys).

These boys… their friendship and their amazing world… these guys just are such good friends, and so loyal to each other.. i want to cry … i just have no words to describe how much i love them all and the books they are from … Maggie Stiefvater just works magic.

I know these aren’t two guys, but their bromance is still of epic proportions… now i’ve only read the first book but i hope it doesn’t develop to more than their friendship because it was so amazing, they are so much about each other without falling into the cliche of falling in love with each other, simply amazing… another author working magic.

T5W: Books Series That Got Better

1. Harry Potter by JK Rowling

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)

I’m not saying the first book wasn’t good, because for me every Harry Potter book is great but i have to admit that when you reread them a few times you can see how JK Rowling gets more and better into the world and the story with each book… Also, Harry Potter is like wine it gets better with age.

2. Half Bad Trilogy by Sally Green

Half Bad (The Half Bad Trilogy, #1)

I have to say it… The first book was a little difficult to get into for me the first time around but i pull through and then the second and third book were perfection and i’m in love with this trilogy.

3. The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater

The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle, #1)

I love The Raven Boys both the biys and the book but i gotta say that as you keep on reading the following books it gets even better ?? Honestly these books are so amazing, i love them.

4. Percy Jackson series/The Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1)

I have to say that though i really enjoyed the Percy Jackson series i didn’t like it as much as i love the continuation, Heroes of Olympus… May be because it’s more middle grade going into young adult, but i enjoy the latter much better than the first series… I don’t know, Uncle Rick’s books just keep getting better.

5. The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1)

I may be cheating a little here because i haven’t read the last book yet but… Like, the first book was really enjoyable and good but then the story got even better ?? So much better, i totally love those books and i’m sure the last one will be awesome.

What series do you think got better with each new book release?

Books Recently Added To My Favorites Ever!

I had to get inventive here, you see… we are in the beginning of February and i never talked to you about my favorite books of 2016, so i figured i could share my top 5 readings of last year disguising it as Books Recently Added To My Favorites Ever!

Am I clever or what?

01

Symptoms of Being Human#5  Symptoms of Being Human by Jeff Garvin

Synopsis [here].

The story is about Riley a gender fluid teenager that isn’t out yet to their parents, is new at school and is the child of a congressman. Now, all this come perfectly into one of the most interesting books i read in 2016, not only because it was the first time i read about a gender fluid character in a book but also because of the way the story was told and the plot itself.

I totally loved the fact that you are never told if Riley was born a boy or a gir, because that’s not the important thing about the character. The story is full of feelings and beautiful moments as well as pretty hard ones.

Obviously, i totally recommend it to everyone, it’s on my favorites after all.

The Raven King (The Raven Cycle, #4)#4.5 The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater

Synopsis [here].

I wasn’t about to add this book to the list really, that’s why it’s half a number. Don’t get me wrong i love The Raven Cycle quartet, i think it’s one of my favorite series, but really even though i really loved the way it ended there were some parts that when looking back i feel were a bit lacking. I still love it a lot and all but my favorite book remains The Dream Thieves.

We Have Always Lived in the Castle #4 We Have Always Lived In The Castle by Shirley Jackson

Synopsis [here].

I read this book at the beginning of 2016 and i still remember every feeling it got me when reading it. It was written in such an incredible way i just loved it to pieces. Really, it is a gothic sort of story that will keep you wanting more even when you are still reading it.

More Than This #3 More Than This by Patrick Ness

Synopsis [here].

Patrick Ness never seizes to amaze me really. There isn’t a book i read by him i haven’t loved. Honestly, all of his books are in my favorites.

In this book, there was something that really was more than anything. I don’t know how to explain the way it made me feel, but i’ll say that from time to time when i think about all that happens in the book and especially about the end i’m awed.  Seriously this book was amazing and kept me guessing all the way through.

1984 #2 1984 by George Orwell

Synopsis [here].

Out of all the classics i read last year this one was the one that got me going ‘wow’ all the way. Honestly, i thought i could enjoy reading some classics but this one was in a completely different level because of everything. I loved it and enjoyed it so much. Sure, it took me a while to really enter the story but the moment i did, i was so hooked. It is incredible.

Half Lost (The Half Bad Trilogy, #3) #1 Half Lost by Sally Green

Synopsis [here].

Ok, this was my favorite book of 2016 by far, like honestly, i cried so much over this book, it reminds me of All The Bright Places (in the crying level). Well, i read Half Wild too in 2016 and loved it a lot too, but if i haveto choose between them both, Half Lost broke my heart so badly i just can’t ignore it. So yeah, this book was my favorite.

Well, you see… the Half Life trilogy is by far my favorite trilogy to this day and i believe it will take a lot for another trilogy for it to mean to me as much as this one does. I love the characters and the story so much, i don’t have he right words.

Oh man, this book broke my heart, and still i’m so glad i got to read this amazing trilogy. Like, i think everyone should give it a try at least because it felt really unique and super interesting, like the way it was written and the story itself. I just adore it, okay … i’m never getting over this.

And that’s all for now! Obviously, there’s another book that became an absolute favorite not long ago but it was in 2017 so i’ll be talking about that book when the time is right.

‘Til Next Time 😉

T5W: I’d totally watch that show.

As always, topics for these entries are taken from the Top 5 Wednesday group on Goodreads . The group was created  Lainey. Now the group is under Samantha’s moderation, you can find her here.

Top 5 Wednesday: I’d Totally Watch That Show

Yes, who hasn’t dream about their favorite book series, trilogies or any book related thing to come to life as a tv show?! I know i do, a lot. Being tthe huge fan of books and tv shows as i am, this is the best topic to talk about especially when the fall tv’s season ks about to start.

Now let’s talk about it!!

Half Bad (The Half Bad Trilogy, #1)The half bad trilogy by Sally Green.

I’m obsessed with these books, okay? So, who do i pay for them to start casting actors for the characters? You see i believe there are two characters the world needs to meet, one is from these books; Gabriel Boutin. The other one is from a series i’ll talk in a minute. Yes, i need Gabriel and in my mind, everyone needs him. Also, obviously the story of the books is thrilling and amazing, i think it’s time for it to become a tv show or at least a movie. Magic, war, representation, and a lone half blood. I tell you these books are great. NOW GIVE ME MY SHOW.

The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle, #1)The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater.

The other character the world need to meet is obviously Ronan Lynch! Ha! Another amazing book series that would look fantastic in my tv as i watch it over and over again. No, seriously though no one thought about making this series a tv show? The books have one of the most original and unique stories.  Aw, now i made myself want this show too much.

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1)Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan.

Okay, i know this one had two terrible tries as movies. Still, even though many things didn’t work in the films, my first worry was the fact that you can’t really put all the information from the books in a movie, this series deserved better. In my personal opinion it deserved a tv show.  I realise it may be pretty pricey because of effects and all, but there are ten and now even more books that can be put into a lot of seasons and also a spin off for Magnus Chase. I mean, it’s a great saga. Please someone save it.

Mr. Mercedes (Bill Hodges Trilogy, #1)The Bill Hodges Trilogy by Stephen King.

One of my *non-YA* fiction books is Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King. This being the first book of the Bill Hodges trilogy is the main reason i want this to be a tv show. Honestly, these books are amazing and adaptations of Stephen King’s works are great for tv shows and movies. Let’s make another Stephen King’s book into a tv show, this time, Mr. Mercedes, Clemence deserves to watch Brady Hartsfield on her screen each week, thank you.

Alive: The Final Evolution, Volume 1Alive! The Final Evolution by Tadashi Kawashima.

This one is one of my favorite manga series of all time. Sadly enough it was never adapted into an anime or a dorama. I thought it would never happen because 1.) the mangaka passed away so i don’t know anything about the rights to the series 2.) it is an *old* manga. I still have no idea about the first fact but now many old manga are being revived (see Parasyte and Berserk for example) so, why not this awesome manga?! I mean,  pretty please? Seriously this manga was my all time favorite for a very long time. Now i have many all time favorites, but.. Adapt this into an anime, please!

Well, that’s it for this week’s topic… what are the books you want to watch as tv shows?!

‘Til Next Time 😉

The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater (With Spoilers)

Hey there everyone! Today i’m bringing you my little and humble opinion on The Raven King .. i know i haven’t reviewed the previous books on the blog, but i’ll be doing it, as soon as i start rereading them. The review has spoilers, so beware! don’t read it unless you have already read the book, you want to be spoiled or you just don’t care!

The Raven King (The Raven Cycle, #4) The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater

Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy, Glbt
Pages: 438
Publisher: Scholastic Press
Rating: 5 stars

Summary: The fourth and final installment in the spellbinding series from the irrepressible, #1 New York Times bestselling author Maggie Stiefvater.

All her life, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love’s death. She doesn’t believe in true love and never thought this would be a problem, but as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.

My opinion on the book:

Okay, so this book got me on the edge of my seat from the very prologue, not only because i’ve been wanting to read it for over an year, but also because of the prologue. It just left me amazed.

So the book starts a few days after the ending of Blue Lily, Lily Blue. Something is very wrong, the psychics at Fox Way know it and soon enough our protagonists will discover it themselves. There’s something wrong with Cabeswater, some kind of nothingness it’s starting to destroy it.

That’s pretty much the plot of the book, the Raven Squad will have to try and stop it before it’s too late, at the same time as they try to stop Gansey from dying as his death is imminent.

The story develops fast, even with all the descriptions that the author add to so much of the stuff. A lot happens in the book. The story telling as always, it’s brilliant in this book, like it was in the previous ones. There’s something amazing and beautiful in the way she narrates this story.

As in the previous books, we get to see the story from different points, we get to know many of the thoughts of the characters, in the best moment the one we want to know the most.

There were some problems with the characters, in my opinion. Blue didn’t seem to have her own storyline, she was there just to keep Gansey’s moving forward. Also, we didn’t get much of Noah, which was a shame, because he is one of my favorite characters in the books. Instead of him we got a ‘new’ Raven Boy, which felt wrong to me.

Like, instead of really giving a proper good-bye to Noah he just sort of faded on the book. Which makes sort of sense because of what was going on with him, but still. Now thinking of it, i want to cry.

We got a lot of Ronan (YAY!), a lot of his thoughts and feelings, some of the descriptions to what he was feeling were just amazing. I loved that even though he looks rough he has such a sweet heart and so in love with Adam (yes, Pynch forever!). Like, at one point it’s said that his feelings for Adam are like oil in the ocean and a match would set everything on fire. That’s just… OMG.

Adam, Adam, Adam.. I love Adam. In comparison of previous books where Adam was struggling with all Cabeswater, in this book he is more of a supportive role to Ronan’s storyline and also we finallt get to know his true feelings. Yes, this is what i’ve been waiting for more than an year now, THANK YOU.

Though the little things about Pynch aren’t many, they actually get more than Gansey and Blue. Some people said that the kissed were rushed, but i think more than that, they were sort of poetic. I enjoyed they moments together.

How great it is that all of Ronan’s creations care about Adam as much as Ronan. After all Ronan is just a sweetheart in love. Even the little Orphan Girl that Ronan gets out of his dream likes him, not to mention Chainsaw.

Also, the talk between Gansey and Adam. Perfect, how much Gansey cares about Ronan and not wanting Adam to hurt him.

Can we talk about Gansey for a second now? Okay, so it’s discovered that Gansey knew he was going to die. Like, he hear his spirit saying his name to Blue. At that moment my heart skipped a few beats. Oh my god. That was unexpected.

The book is pretty much about him and Ronan.

Gansey is trying to make everything right for when he’s gone. In this book we get to see a more human part of him, his fear of dying, he even cries. And finally, i can say … I like the guy. Finally, now i can like him.. because in previous books he seemed just cocky to me and i couldn’t stand him. He was a good friend to the squad though, i mean, always.

I don’t know…

I didn’t like Henry. I wonder if Ronan will ever be friends with him…

Overall, it was a great ending… I was a little worried after finishing Half Lost and how much it broke my heart. But this ending made me super happy, like taking me out of my reading slump happy which is awesome and all i want is to hug Maggie for such a perfect ending to this wonderful series.

I’m  a hundred percent sure i’ll be reading this books again, because the characters were so amazing and lovable, the story was so great and everything was just amazing. Another series added to my favorites forever.

And what did you think about the book? Do you think the ending made justice to the story? Did you like it? Share your opinion!

T5W: Least Favorite Book in My Favorite Series

As always, topics for these entries are taken from the Top 5 Wednesday group on Goodreads . The group was created by Lainey, who you can also follow on Youtube.

Top 5 Wednesday: Least Favorite Book in My Favorite Series

Blue Lily, Lily Blue (The Raven Cycle, #3)

5.) Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater.

This is a very difficult choice because i love these books, yet again, i love all the series that will appear in this top so…. I just didn’t enjoyed all the way through this books as i did with the previous ones, even though there’s so much about Adam and i love him .. something just didn’t feel as magical in this books as the others.

Finders Keepers (Bill Hodges Trilogy, #2)

4.) Finders Keepers by Stephen King

Okay, so i’m cheating a little here, because the last book isn’t out yet, but you have to understand how much i love Mr. Mercedes (it’s of my favorite books and my favorite thriller) and to be honest, this book wasn’t even nearly as good as Mr. Mercedes, which was a total bummer … i was so thrilled because of the previous one when i picked up this one, that i felt totally cheated when i finished it. Still, i’m looking forward for the last one because this one ended in a cliffhanger that is killing me!!

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Harry Potter, #2)

3.) Harry Potter And The Chamber of Secrets by J. K. Rowling

I feel like i’m always talking about how much i don’t like this book compared to the rest of the series.. I’m pretty sure i am… Anyway, it’s weird because for a very long tme it was my favorite of them all, until one day i just couldn’t keep reading it … I guess i just burned it out, like when you watch a movie too many times until you just cannot stand it any longer. But well, it’s not as if i won’t reread it a few more times in my life.. i’ll just have to take more time between the readings.

City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments, #4)

2.) City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare

So, this book felt so weird to me the first time i read it, i just wished it was over already, it had its good stuff, but something was missing, like it was not much more than a filler. I don’t know what else to say, so i’ll just leave it there.

Beautiful Darkness (Caster Chronicles, #2)

1.) Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

This book takes the first place of this list because it almost got me to stop reading this series, in this book almost nothing happens, and i know that because of it many dropped the series. Luckly for me a few months after finishing this one i missed the characters so much i decided i’ll read the third book anyway, and to my surprise it got so much better! I love this series and i think more people should give the third book a chance, because it saves the day! Anyway… Beautidul Darkness isn’t the best book you’ll ever read, but not the worst either!

What are your least favorite books from the series you love?!

‘Til Next Time 😉
