Let’s Talk Bookish | What makes a book beautiful?

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme, hosted by Rukky @ Eternity Books & Dani @ Literary Lion, where a topic is presented each week and we get to share our opinions on it and spread some love among others’s opinions too!

This is my first time doing the meme, but i hope i get to enjoy this for a long time!

So, What Makes A Book Beautiful?

When thinking about pretty books, I guess many people may think about covers. Covers are the first impression we get from any book really, unless we heard of it before hand, we’ll always look at the covers. They are the ones designed to invite us into them, into the stories and it’s not a secret nor a sin we sometimes pick the books by the way their covers look. If you knew how many times I chose a book but their covers.

I love covers, especially when they are from a trilogy or a series and they all have the same theme or are symetrical.

Beautiful covers are an invitation to something magical, something unique.

Another thing that makes a book beautiful in my eyes is the name of the book, there are some book names i can’t stop thinking about because they sound so beautiful when i think of them. Many times, when i know i won’t be able to stop thinking about the name of the book i already know i’ll be obsessed with the book for a while.

I belive finding the right name for a book is art.

But for me the most important beauty of the books comes more from the prose.

I have a thing for words when i read and not every author feels the same, obviously. Each author has a way of writing and some of them have a particular waay of describing things, others the characters and most important feelings.

To this day the most beautiful books I found were written by Nina LaCour.

Not only the covers of her books are beautiful, but the melancholy you can find in them is unique. She shares a calm, a loneliness i only found on her books and it’s so different from anything else i ever read. Only thinking about her books makes me want to cry because i feel seen by someone. I know i’m not the only one feeling the way i do, because if someone else could put it into words, someone else feels that way too and understands.

I think i went a little all over the place and practically said everything can make a book beautiful but i really think so, even a recommendation from someone you love can make a book special.

The beauty is in the eye of the beholder, every book can be beautiful, they just need to find the right person or the right moment for you to appreciate them.

  1. Ooh that photo of The Raven Cycle! I definitely think they qualify as beautiful covers – although the paperbacks that had photos of real boys on them were a drag. Even the naked hardbacks look gorgeous together!!
