In an Absent Dream (Wayward Children, #4)

Genre: YA, Fantasy
Pages: 187
Rating: 4.18 stars

Summary: This fourth entry and prequel tells the story of Lundy, a very serious young girl who would rather study and dream than become a respectable housewife and live up to the expectations of the world around her. As well she should.

When she finds a doorway to a world founded on logic and reason, riddles and lies, she thinks she’s found her paradise. Alas, everything costs at the goblin market, and when her time there is drawing to a close, she makes the kind of bargain that never plays out well.

The prequel and backstory of Lundy, a character who appears in her older version in previous books of the series. This time we meet her as she is a young girl, a dreamer who rather run away than being a housewife, or whatever her parents would want her to be as she grows up. She finds her doorway to a world full of logic and riddles where she finds her true friends. There she´ll learn the cost of her acts, and how difficult it is to stay in a place you love while you are wanted somewhere else.

This was a book i did not know i wanted or needed, but i totally did.

There´s so much magic in this series, it is amazing. I think, for such short stories, there is so much the author gets to tell in these books.

I never thought i would be interested in Lundy´s backstory but the author has so many ideas for doorways and worlds, you just can´t stop reading them. I felt so bad for her and her friends across the book i just wanted her to be able to stay where she really wanted but her struggle felt so real.

Obviously we know where she ends up being, as we have seen her in previously in the home for wayward children, but knowing how she got there, it was wonderful.

The story is full of sorrow and longing, which made my heart love her character even more than i already did.

I don’t wanna talk much about the plot because it’s something you have todiscover by yourself while reading the book, but i have toadmit i read it at the beginning of the year and it had stayed with me to this day.

As always, these books are written beautifully. The author is just a genius.

I can’t wait to know the endgame to this series, but at the same time, i just want these books to keep on coming and never stop.

I still recommend it 100%, to everyone who ever dreamt about finding their “door” to another world, a orld where they belong.

I give this book 4.5 stars.
