Hey there everyone! Today i’m bringing you my little and humble opinion on The Raven King .. i know i haven’t reviewed the previous books on the blog, but i’ll be doing it, as soon as i start rereading them. The review has spoilers, so beware! don’t read it unless you have already read the book, you want to be spoiled or you just don’t care!
The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy, Glbt
Publisher: Scholastic Press
Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The fourth and final installment in the spellbinding series from the irrepressible, #1 New York Times bestselling author Maggie Stiefvater.
All her life, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love’s death. She doesn’t believe in true love and never thought this would be a problem, but as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.
My opinion on the book:
Okay, so this book got me on the edge of my seat from the very prologue, not only because i’ve been wanting to read it for over an year, but also because of the prologue. It just left me amazed.
So the book starts a few days after the ending of Blue Lily, Lily Blue. Something is very wrong, the psychics at Fox Way know it and soon enough our protagonists will discover it themselves. There’s something wrong with Cabeswater, some kind of nothingness it’s starting to destroy it.
That’s pretty much the plot of the book, the Raven Squad will have to try and stop it before it’s too late, at the same time as they try to stop Gansey from dying as his death is imminent.
The story develops fast, even with all the descriptions that the author add to so much of the stuff. A lot happens in the book. The story telling as always, it’s brilliant in this book, like it was in the previous ones. There’s something amazing and beautiful in the way she narrates this story.
As in the previous books, we get to see the story from different points, we get to know many of the thoughts of the characters, in the best moment the one we want to know the most.
There were some problems with the characters, in my opinion. Blue didn’t seem to have her own storyline, she was there just to keep Gansey’s moving forward. Also, we didn’t get much of Noah, which was a shame, because he is one of my favorite characters in the books. Instead of him we got a ‘new’ Raven Boy, which felt wrong to me.
Like, instead of really giving a proper good-bye to Noah he just sort of faded on the book. Which makes sort of sense because of what was going on with him, but still. Now thinking of it, i want to cry.
We got a lot of Ronan (YAY!), a lot of his thoughts and feelings, some of the descriptions to what he was feeling were just amazing. I loved that even though he looks rough he has such a sweet heart and so in love with Adam (yes, Pynch forever!). Like, at one point it’s said that his feelings for Adam are like oil in the ocean and a match would set everything on fire. That’s just… OMG.
Adam, Adam, Adam.. I love Adam. In comparison of previous books where Adam was struggling with all Cabeswater, in this book he is more of a supportive role to Ronan’s storyline and also we finallt get to know his true feelings. Yes, this is what i’ve been waiting for more than an year now, THANK YOU.
Though the little things about Pynch aren’t many, they actually get more than Gansey and Blue. Some people said that the kissed were rushed, but i think more than that, they were sort of poetic. I enjoyed they moments together.
How great it is that all of Ronan’s creations care about Adam as much as Ronan. After all Ronan is just a sweetheart in love. Even the little Orphan Girl that Ronan gets out of his dream likes him, not to mention Chainsaw.
Also, the talk between Gansey and Adam. Perfect, how much Gansey cares about Ronan and not wanting Adam to hurt him.
Can we talk about Gansey for a second now? Okay, so it’s discovered that Gansey knew he was going to die. Like, he hear his spirit saying his name to Blue. At that moment my heart skipped a few beats. Oh my god. That was unexpected.
The book is pretty much about him and Ronan.
Gansey is trying to make everything right for when he’s gone. In this book we get to see a more human part of him, his fear of dying, he even cries. And finally, i can say … I like the guy. Finally, now i can like him.. because in previous books he seemed just cocky to me and i couldn’t stand him. He was a good friend to the squad though, i mean, always.
I don’t know…
I didn’t like Henry. I wonder if Ronan will ever be friends with him…
Overall, it was a great ending… I was a little worried after finishing Half Lost and how much it broke my heart. But this ending made me super happy, like taking me out of my reading slump happy which is awesome and all i want is to hug Maggie for such a perfect ending to this wonderful series.
I’m a hundred percent sure i’ll be reading this books again, because the characters were so amazing and lovable, the story was so great and everything was just amazing. Another series added to my favorites forever.
