Top 5 Wednesday: Least Favorite Book in My Favorite Series

Blue Lily, Lily Blue (The Raven Cycle, #3)

5.) Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater.

This is a very difficult choice because i love these books, yet again, i love all the series that will appear in this top so…. I just didn’t enjoyed all the way through this books as i did with the previous ones, even though there’s so much about Adam and i love him .. something just didn’t feel as magical in this books as the others.

Finders Keepers (Bill Hodges Trilogy, #2)

4.) Finders Keepers by Stephen King

Okay, so i’m cheating a little here, because the last book isn’t out yet, but you have to understand how much i love Mr. Mercedes (it’s of my favorite books and my favorite thriller) and to be honest, this book wasn’t even nearly as good as Mr. Mercedes, which was a total bummer … i was so thrilled because of the previous one when i picked up this one, that i felt totally cheated when i finished it. Still, i’m looking forward for the last one because this one ended in a cliffhanger that is killing me!!

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Harry Potter, #2)

3.) Harry Potter And The Chamber of Secrets by J. K. Rowling

I feel like i’m always talking about how much i don’t like this book compared to the rest of the series.. I’m pretty sure i am… Anyway, it’s weird because for a very long tme it was my favorite of them all, until one day i just couldn’t keep reading it … I guess i just burned it out, like when you watch a movie too many times until you just cannot stand it any longer. But well, it’s not as if i won’t reread it a few more times in my life.. i’ll just have to take more time between the readings.

City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments, #4)

2.) City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare

So, this book felt so weird to me the first time i read it, i just wished it was over already, it had its good stuff, but something was missing, like it was not much more than a filler. I don’t know what else to say, so i’ll just leave it there.

Beautiful Darkness (Caster Chronicles, #2)

1.) Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

This book takes the first place of this list because it almost got me to stop reading this series, in this book almost nothing happens, and i know that because of it many dropped the series. Luckly for me a few months after finishing this one i missed the characters so much i decided i’ll read the third book anyway, and to my surprise it got so much better! I love this series and i think more people should give the third book a chance, because it saves the day! Anyway… Beautidul Darkness isn’t the best book you’ll ever read, but not the worst either!

What are your least favorite books from the series you love?!

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1) Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Genre: YA, Fantasy, Fairy Tale Retelling, Dystopia
Pages: 390
Publisher: Feiwel & Friends
Rating: 4 stars

Summary: Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl.

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

My opinion on the book:

Normally i don’t read retelling mostly because i’m scared of what the writer may do to the original story, but i have to admit that i really like this retelling of Cinderella. I think the world the author created is very inventive for the story it has to tell.

I enjoyed very much Cinder’s character, she is strong and fights for what she believes in, yet even though she has a difficult life, she still has a good heart. It was refreshing that she had a good relationship with one of her step sister, i wish i was more developed, but i guess there was no time for that.

The disease storyline made, in my opinion, a much more interesting story than the orginal one, i got to admit that all i knew about the book was that it was suppose to be Cinderella, everything, even the little details got me by surprise and it was amazing.

The characters are either very lovable or you hate them to death, i’m thrilled to see what’s coming up next with Queen Levana, she seems a very interesting character.

I loved every interaction between Cinder and Prince Kai, and i hope in the next book we get to see more of them, since it seems like they aren’t each book stand-alones but are somehow connected (?).

Iko was one of my favorite characters, and i hope she will be making some appearence in the next books.

Overall, i really enjoyed the book. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 only because i know many people enjoyed even more the next books, so i’m giving the benefit of the doubt, in any case, i may change the rating.

Oh! My favorite part of the book was the actual ball, it was so amazing! I loved eery part of it, and that ending! I’m already prepearing myself for the next book, although i now most people didn’t like Scarlet much. I’m totally psyched by what seems to be one great series, and i hope i’ll really get to read all the books (and reviewing them all).

I already ordered the books from my neighborhood store, i already got Cinder and Scarlet (on my Kindle, i bought them a while ago),so i’m hping i’ll be able to binge them in the next months.

Well, that’s all for now.

‘Til Next Time My Lovelies! 😉

Resolutions’ Update 3

March is coming to its end, i cannot believe it…

This has been a slow month, i haven’t read  much, mostly because i’ve been binging Full House and Fuller House tumblr_inline_ncy795zGhN1qen4yd …

Anyway, I’m glad i managed to read Lady Midnight fairly quickly, I’m looking forward to Half Lost (coming up the 29th), and i’ve already read my classic of the month! which is a new (no the book, but the fact that i already did it) … This month I read Animal Farm by George Orwell, i’ll talk about in my wrap up of the month, right now i’ll just say it was a great and eye-opener reading.

I’m thinking about which classic to read next month, but i cannot decide, it’s too difficult … i’m afraid of choosing the wrong one and then hating it.

I tried to make a tbr this month, but apparently i’m a mood reader, i may have a ton of boooks waiting for me and a little list saying to me “hey! we are the books you are supposed to read next!” but then i’ll be like … “but i’m not in the mood for happy stuff, go away!” and i won’t be able to read the books in the tbr …. I’ll be talking about tbrs later next month, because that’s something that really got me thinking…

I’m looking for a good non-fiction to read next, … if you have any good recommendations i’ll be more than happy that take them, because i’m out of ideas…so, please, if there’s any good non-fiction book you recently read and like, let me know!

About my other new year’s resolutions… and the blog itself, i’ve been worried about running out of ideas of what to write about, so i’m working on making the blog a little more structured, i hope it’ll work… i’m supposed to write at least three times a week and for now, i’m doing a good job at posting more than three times a week, but who knows what could happen? Oh yes! so, from April on, be prepared for some new stuff coming to the blog, i hope you’ll enjoy it and i’ll be able to manage all the stuff… hehehe.

Anyway, … even though i wasn’t planning on participating on the Goodreads challenge this year, somehow i ended up deciding on reading 52, just for good measure, like one book a week but i read more than that, i’m about 33/52 already, although i’m not quite sure comics and graphic novels should count (?) what do you think? why was i saying this? .. i forgot already .. nevermind…

Anyway, i think that’s all for this  update,

‘Til next time 😉

Old Friend Revisited #2: The Simpsons

Emulating the real life of a regular family and city, The Simpsons are more than just a TV show, they are an icon of Western culture… From the very first season, and to this very day, the Simpsons represent everything we are as a society. With more than 20 seasons and a humor that crosses countries The Simpsons are here to stay, hopefully, for a very long time.

So, as you may have already understood …Today i want to share a little about my history with one of my favorite tv shows of all time, The Simpsons!

When did you start watching the show?

I’m pretty sure i’ve been watching the show since… forever … I remember being little and already wanting to get to Lisa’s age. The reruns on public tv had been there since i remember myself. I remember watching it on “TELEFE” an Argentinian channel Monday to Friday at 5pm (if  i recall it right). Heck a few months ago a show my mother watches was cancelled and when i asked her what will they put instead she was like “they my put The Simpsons’ reruns, that’s what they always do”, so yeah… Simpsons, Simpsons everywhere.

Why did you started watching it?

Well, it was just there all the time, so i’m guessing i just watched it because there was nothing else, but i ended up really liking the show, i mean, i LOVE the show.

When did you knew you love the show so much it’d become a favorite?

I’m not sure, because as i said, i’ve been watching it forever, but i guess the moment i didn’t mind i’ve already watched the episode running and rewatching it and enjoying it as if it was the first time.

How many times did you watch the show?

Too many to count, i’m serious, i gave up counting the times when i was about 10, and t’ s been almost 16 years since then…. also, i rewatch the show pretty much every two years (at least) and i mean i rewatch all the episodes, yes.

Who is your favorite character?

pawlorpaul: this is the last time I bring these two to bed at the same time Nothing good has ever come from reading William L. Shirer before bed.

Lisa is without doubt one of the most influential characters in my life, i’ve been wanting to be her since i was little and i tried my best to be as close to her as possible… I guess since i’m the middle child as her i’ve always thought i should be her, but as i grew up i just found out i’m like her without even trying. I like the way she is, how she presents the racional thinking in the show, the fact that she is so smart ad her love for books and music, when still loving dolls, ponies and childish things. So, i guess she is my favorte character, most because i see so much on her, not only her being a simple character in a cartoon show, but a well rounded person.

Lisa and I have so much in common.

This is your default reaction to life.
Way too much…

Who is your least favorite character?

I don’t think i have one… okay, maybe the two aliens…. but only because they drool a lot and that’s just gross. Okay, Homer does too, but the aliens are freaking green and remind me of snakes which i hate.

Favorite season?

I don’t know, probably the first 15 seasons are my favorites, mostly because i find them to be the funniest.

Least favorite season?

mmm, it’s not like there’s one specific, because all the seaons have epsiodes i really laugh to, but in the last couple of seasons i found less episodes to laugh a lot about.. so i guess the last few seasons are least favorites.

One thing you just totally loved;

I really like the Halloween specials

One thing you disliked;

I totally hated the crossover with Family Guy, it felt so cheap.

Would you recommend it?

If you haven’t watched the Simpsons, i don’t understand where have you been living for the last two and a half decades! even aliens know about the show!  Even so, where i live people don’t seem to appreciate the show enough, people here prefer Family Guy, but okay… they loss.

I would recommend the show to anyone that wants to have a great laugh, the show is amazing and the characters are incredibly real and lovable!

Any last words about the show?

I love The Simpsons, and i know they aren’t as funny as they used to be, but the show is still great, i don’t know maybe i’m too invested in it to have a truthful opinion, but i’ve been watching it all my life and i’m too attached to the characters. I’ll watch the show until the very last episode, or my last day (whichever comes first).

And that’s all for now my lovelies! I hope you liked it, and if you haven’t watch The Simpsons yet, go watch it!

‘Til Next Time 😉

Enduring a boring job

My job is horribly boring, all i do all day is type, type and type… I wouldn’t mind it much if the talks there were, at least, normal and civilized, but for some reason, i cannot understand the people i work with are pretty much the worst. From cataloging 50 Shades of Grey as the best trilogy

From cataloging 50 Shades of Grey as the best trilogy ever written to racism anyone should be ashamed of, listening to them is like a nightmare, a horrible 8 hours and a half long nightmare.

So, because i may be crazy but not that much, i had to develop a strategy to keep them away from my ears. Trying to reasoning with them proved to be just a waste of time.

In case you still have no idea what i’m here to talk about, i decided to share the ways you can save your sanity if you find yourself in a situation like mine.

  • Podcasts are always good.

Listening to some podcast can be a life saver, this was the first solution i found when i started working at my office, back when the only problem i had was the ‘click, clikc click’  from typing that was driving me nuts.

There are an incredible amount of podcast styles, from serious talks to science fiction story telling, i found amuzing to listen to podcast that taught me stuff, i personally recommend all the podcast from howstuffworks.com, they have great and a large amount of different podcasts such as; Stuff you missed in history class (my favorite), Stuff you should know, Stuff to blow your mind and Stuff they don’t want you to know.

You can also find some incredible podcasts as Welcome To Night Vale and Thrilling Adventure Hour.

  • Radio is not dead!

A while back i would have asked who would be still listening to radio these days, but when at work, radio can be a great solution to passing the time. Radio has still so much to offer, talk shows and music, a lot of fun can be found there.

Personally i recommend it more than just listening to music because that way after a while you’ll end up hating your favorite music but not when you listen to all the music (even those you don’t particularly like) and then at a random moment your favorite song pops up!

News and talk shows are a way to keep it interesting too, since it varies more than music, it’s a good way to keep you awake!

  • Youtubers are fun

Lately, i’ve been listening to youtubers while at work, obviously if you have awork like mine, where you are looking at a computer all the time you have to find youtubers that mostly talk and don’t make videos you need to watch… for instance i find booktubers and their book reviews a great way of passing the time because you just have to listen to them really..

Also, i enjoy listening to creepy stories and creepypastas, but it may look weird if you listen to a screamer and jump, even when you aren’t watching… it happens to me once in a while, but aftera while if you know the youtuber you are listening to, you learn to understand when is the screamer coming and you are not surprised…

  • Audiobooks are books, only someone read them to you.

If your job is like mine, you don’t really need to concentrate much on the work you are doing, you just type mechanically, so you can use the hours that could go to waste and instead use them to listen to audiobooks. This is a great way to catch up with books you really want to read, after all this is like reading a book, only someone else is doing it for you.

Personally i love listening to audiobooks, because then i feel i did something more useful that the monotone typing… Also, there are some incredible narrators, for example, listening to Neil Gaiman narrating it’s AMAZING. There are some other great narrators, you just have to check you enjoy listening to their voices before you buy the audiobooks, because you may end up hating the narrator and then not enjoying the book.

  • Netflix and other online watching options.

Last month i decided on purchasing netflix so i can listen to shows while at work,  i cannot watch it, but it’s pretty great, i mostly *rewatch* old shows and pick up with Shadowhunters on Wednesday instead of waiting until i get home in the afternoon. Obviously i have to be cautious because if my boss finds out he’ll take away my phone privileges, and all, but i ain’t watching, so i don’t know for sure…

There are also some other options, there’s projectfreetv for instance, where you can find a lot of tv shows, and even in youtube there are some movies and shows to watch, you just look for a god site and listen the hell out of any show. Sadly i still cannot watch anime …

And well, those are the ways  i keep myself *sane* at work, you could alsofind some normal people and talk to them, but at least at my work place they prefer we work in silenc, like robots, so most of the time i’m with my headphones on.

And that’ all!! ‘Til Next Time 😉

Top 5 Wednesday: Books I Didn’t Finish

5.) A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1)A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

I tried to read it back when i was 17 – wow, that’s a while ago, almost 9 years – and i rememeber that it had so much sexual content i couldn’t bring myself to read it. To this day i’m pretty sure i wouldn’t read a book like that, so there you go, a series i’m probably never reading. I mean, i remember liking the beginning with the wolves and all, i remember liking Jon Snow, but then i just.. no.

Afterworlds4.) Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld

Last year when i was in London i bought this book and i tried to read it back then, but there’s something in the author’s writing that doesn’t work for me.. Still, since i bought it and i’m 1/4 into the book, i’m pretty sure i’ll try again sometime, but not for now… still in my TBR anyway.

We All Looked Up3.) We All Looked Up by Tommy Wallach

I was half way through thisbook when i realized i didn’t care at all what was about to happen to the characters, when this happened ijust put the book aside and picked up anoter one, because tat was truly what felt right… I may still get interested on the ending one day, so the book is still waiting in my TBR, but i’m not sure that day will ever come.

Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1)2.) Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Mass

I started reading this book mostly becauseeveryone was recommending it, not because i really wanted to… i won’t say much about this, let’s just say i have some problems with the main character which is a shame, because the story seemed pretty interesting (although some stuff felt a little too obvious), i really wanted to know who was behind the murders, but i couldn’t .. i just cannot read about Caelina, …still, i didn’t spoil myself about anything on these books because maybe one day i’ll want to read it, actually i was thinking onpicking it up again, it’s being a while, almost two years since i read half of the book, maybe now i can appreciate it more. Obviously, this books is still in my TBR.

Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices, #3) 1.) Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare

If you have ever read my blog, you must know i totally love the shadow world, and i love The Mortal Instruments (and Lady Midnight tumblr_inline_n61q9gT5Qa1qhdusl)…. but there’s something about The Infernal Devices that i just cannot stand for some reason (nah, let’s be real, i didn’t like the main characters and i hate love triangles). So, because of how Clockwork Prince ended i started this book knowing i would just suffer a lot and then after about 5 chapters i put it aside and didn’t finish it… I got spoiled anyway… I hope one day i’ll finish it, after all shadowhunters and all, Lightwood and all, …SOPHIE MY BABY and all…I bought the graphic novel, to at least read that anndsay “i finished The Infernal Devices” but i still haven’t done it.

And that’s all for this top 5! What are the books you didn’t finish?

‘Til Next Time 😉
